Do You Want To Go?
Are you sure every casino adheres to the same rules? It would be safe to bet your hard-earned money in a casino that is run by some of the biggest names in the business. These were the questions I posed to my good friend, Nevada gaming attorney, when he was on business. I was having a bit of fun looking through the local telephone book for casinos that are reputable. His response was quite interesting.
He said, "I don't know." "You'll be able to ask the casino staff to help you." The next day, I visited an acquaintance in Las Vegas who has lived in Las Vegas for most of his adult life. He was with some friends from England, whom he had never had before. We were all gambling in the casino, drinking beer, and then suddenly I noticed a Brit who was sitting beside me, playing an English-style game, the six-shooter.
"What you doing?" I asked. "This isn't part of the game," he replied. I looked at him with a confused look. "Are you British?" "No," he said.
"You believe you're playing a simulation? "simulated casino game" I retorted. "How do you describe this as a simulation game?" "It's a game of chance," he said. "Does this mean that these casinos aren't operating as a legitimate business?"
"Does this mean that American gambling law doesn't apply to Vegas?" he inquired. "If the law of the state in Vegas says you can be as adventurous as you like when it comes to gambling, then they have the right to say and do it. I'm not trying say that there's a vast difference between what an Vegas gambler is able to do compared to what someone from England or Australia can do. I've also known folks in the United States who've made a large amount of money through gambling, but now want the opportunity to return to the free world and increase their stakes in the country of the dollar, and are planning to move to Macau.
The British have an advantage in most casino games; they know how to play the game, they understand the house edge (the difference between the real value of money and the fair market value of the same asset) and they are able to beat the dealers, because they understand statistics and probabilities. However, they are not the only Americans who have taken their experience with casino games and applied it to roulette, craps, baccarat and other games. It's not just a matter of chance.
